How to Use a Natural Deodorant

How to Use Natural Deodorant

Now you have your wonderfully delicious essential oil scented, probiotic, natural deodorant!  What now?

It is a little different than using store bought deodorant.

There is a transition period if you are switching from store bought deodorant that has aluminum in it.

(Please check out my last post on WHY TO SWITCH to natural deodorant.)

As I spoke about in my last blog post, aluminum creates a war zone of bad bacteria under your arms. Some people have commented that they feel sweatier for a few days when switching over.

Here is a tip to help transition:

It is a good idea to help the detox process and put a clay mask on your underarms.  You can use kaolin clay, bentonite, french green or a combination of them.  Getting the dry loose clay is pretty easy if you shop at a natural grocery store.  You just add water to make a paste and apply and leave it for 5-15 minutes.

You can detox your underarms anytime!  It is a good idea to do it every few months.

Putting on the Deodorant

You can’t quickly slap it on like store bought deodorant.  Because it is made of waxes and butters, you have to give it about 2-3 seconds to warm up to your body heat and then gently apply.

Don't use too much.

A little bit goes a long way.  You really just need one or two swipes and you are good to go!

In between applications

Make sure you use an abrasive cloth, pouf or even lightly use a pumice stone to remove with soapy water when you are in the shower.

Warning:

This deodorant is made from waxes and butters that will remain on your skin if you don’t scrub it off.  After several days of NOT scrubbing it off, it will start to smell like something went bad in your fridge.

Will this Deodorant Stain My Clothes?

No!  I use deodorized ingredients that are clean and they don’t stain clothes.

Problems with Baking Soda

If you get sensitive from the baking soda in the full strength formula, try switching it out with the sensitive version of the deodorant. Baking Soda is AMAZING at killing odor and that is why I add it to the maximum strength formulas.  However, baking soda has a more basic pH than our skin so you can get a rash.  If you get a rash, switch to the sensitive version of the deodorant.

Why I love using the Sensitive Probiotic Deodorant

I’ve always considered myself on the sweatier/smellier side and always used an extra strength deodorant.  Maybe its because my underarms are totally used to the natural deodorant but the non baking soda version works perfectly, all-day for me.

The sensitive version doesn’t have baking soda.  It uses arrowroot to absorb wetness and activated charcoal.

Activated charcoal is great to use in deodorant because it strongly and quickly draws out toxins and impurities and banishes odor.

Choices of scents

Lavender and rosemary is a wonderfully floral and herbaceous scent.  It is unisex but it seems to draw more womens preferences.

Sweet Orange and Cedarwood is sweet and earthy.  It also is unisex but men tend to be drawn to it.

Sensitive Deodorant is also scented with lavender and rosemary essential oils.

Although the scent of the oils dissipate as the day goes on, you are just left with zero smell.
